Finally our parents meet

david February 28th, 2007

Back in 2006, even before I proposed to Pei Chyi, we had decided that Chinese New Year would be the best time for our parents to meet each other. Yup, that’s right, they’ve not actually met face-to-face this past 4 years that Pei Chyi and I have been together.

So Chinese New Year arrived and we set last Sunday as the meeting date. Sunday arrived and my whole family made our way to Pei Chyi’s house after church. Pei Chyi and I were quite nervous about it. How would it go? Would our parents manage to get along? Will they have anything in common? What if the conversation starts to turn towards dowry??

In preparation for a smooth meeting, Pei Chyi and I even thought of topics to talk about beforehand to avoid any awkward silences. It’s a good thing we did because the conversation did almost patter out several times. That is, until Pei Chyi’s cousin joined the conversation.

Pei Chyi and DebraDebra did a good job in being a real chatterbox and easily steered the conversation everywhere and back. She managed to relieve a lot of the stress that Pei Chyi and I had and so we’re really thankful.

So, scratch one more checkbox off the list. Our parents have finally met without disaster. Now onward to more planning for the big day.

Planning is slow…

Sorry the blog has been so quiet, but we’ve got nothing to report because we’ve got nothing done yet.

Chinese New Year, monster guest lists, difficulty in finding venues, general laziness and procrastination on our part – all contributors to us being behind schedule in our planning. We’ve not yet made any solid decisions and have not booked any venues and vendors at all. We need a kick in our butts!
