The case of the traditional Chinese costume
admin September 21st, 2007
The kua has been on my mind since we started to discuss about the attire for the wedding and the reception. The kua is really a red 3/4 sleeved top with a red ankle length skirt, with loads of sequins and beading resembling the dragon and the phoenix. The Chinese believe that this is symbolic for matrimonial harmony and a happy marriage. Here’s a link to some pictures of how a kua typically looks like. When i showed a picture of it to my maid of honour, Jess, she gasped and her eyes opened wide. I don’t know if it was too foreign for her or that it was too red. But i like it!
Initially, the intention was to purchase an off-the-shelf evening gown, until i found some contacts for kua rental. Mom and i visited a shop in Puchong called Xilinmen last week and they had a limited range of kua for rent. I tried on two of them and there was one that fit just nice. Without much thought we placed a booking deposit for the kua and I will be wearing it for the reception (changing into it from my wedding gown in between dish no. 2 or 3).
We now need to fish around for Dave’s Chinese traditional costume to match the kua
I’m thinking Jet Li in one of those kung fu movies…..
hahaha! yes, quite foreign to me :p
But I’m sure you’ll look splendid in it
hello! how many dress changes will you have?? I guess it’s customary to change into a traditional one at some stage – how often will you get to wear one anyway, so you should just do it! heehhe..:)
